On Windows I like applications which use child windows within them because I can quickly navigate from application to application(alt tab) and from within applications(control tab). I would like to see more Windows-like child window behavior of the firefox tabs(I would like to be able to arrange and resize tabs within one(or more^^) firefox application window(or each open firefox window).
The advantage I get out of using this child window behavior with other programs is utilizing all the space of the window while focusing in on select portions of the content of those child windows without them being of negligible size.
An additional area of improvement would be to have the ability to manipulate the focus area of single tabs. For instance, if I were to log into my e-mail and read a letter, I would like to maximize the space occupied by the letter I am reading while pushing away(or out of view) the remaining portion of that Web page(I believe Adobe reader exhibits similar zoom aspects.)

[...] Since he’s currently focusing on mobile, Aza’s prototypes are a bit more radical than we’ll probably ever see in the desktop version of Firefox. But Jenny Boriss and Madhava Enros are looking at both big and small ways to improve the tabbed browsing experience on the desktop.
There isn’t a “tab preview page” in Opera. You can select an option to show thumbnails when you hover over a tab. Also, Opera lets you duplicate a tab (a useful feature).

One thing I sometimes miss is the possibility of having two tabs open at the same time in the same window, split vertically or horizontally (like you can do in emacs).
